Please note: The appearances of
Genis in Avengers Forever #1-11 and most of #12 is the Genis of the future. The
present-time Genis only has a small cameo at the end of issue #12.
Avengers Forever #1 (December 1998) - written by Kurt Busiek, art
by Carlos Pacheco
- The 26th Century is ruled by the descendants of Rick Jones and
enforced by a ruthless army corps based on the Avengers. The Avengers seek the Supreme
Intelligence's help in curing Rick Jones from a mysterious bio-decay. They reluctantly
leave Rick in the Supreme Intelligence's care, and a mysterious robed visitor appears.
However, Immortus dispatches his thrall Tempus to kill Rick, but Tempus is destroyed by
Kang. Immortus launches an all-out assault on Kang, while the robed visitor triggers
Rick's power that summons a strange assembly of Avengers, including a future Captain
Marvel!
Avengers Forever #2 (January 1999) -
written by Kurt Busiek, art by Carlos Pacheco
- The newly assembled Avengers, plucked
from the time stream by Rick, reluctantly join Kang against Immortus. Rick begins to flex
in new found powers and forces Immortus to retreat. The Avengers then must trust the robed
visitor, who reveals himself as Libra, and make their way to Kang's Citadel in
Chronopolis. However, Immortus has apparently already defeated Kang and is ready to
destroy them!
Avengers Forever #3 (February 1999) -
written by Kurt Busiek, art by Carlos Pacheco
- The Avengers drive off Immortus' initial attack and meet up with
Kang. After agreeing to an alliance, the Avengers get a brief break from the action.
Immortus' follow-up attack comes fast and furious. The Avengers are forced to flee in
Kang's Sphinx time machine. Immortus defeats Kang and seizes the Heart of Forever. He
destroys Chronopolis and creates the Forever Crystal.
Avengers Forever #4 (March 1999) - written
by Kurt Busiek, art by Carlos Pacheco
- The Avengers escape Immortus' wave of destruction by fleeing into the
Timestream. Hawkeye takes out his frustrations on Libra, who leaves them. Both Pyms work
together to locate Immortus' temporal imbalances and the team splits up to investigate
them. Jones is forced to stay behind for his own safety. Giant Man and Captain America
make their way to an alternate future Earth where Martians have conquered Earth and the
Earth is defended by the Avengers who are made up of Black Panther, Crimson Dynamo,
Jocasta, Killraven, and Thundra. YellowJacket, Hawkeye, and Songbird travel to the late
nineteenth century American West (circa Avg. 142-143). Genis and Wasp stop off in an
alternate late fifties Earth where they encounter that time's Avengers: 3-D Man, Gorilla
Man, Human Robot, Marvel Boy, Venus.
Avengers Forever #5 (April 1999) - written
by Kurt Busiek, art by Carlos Pacheco
- In the alternate future Earth, Captain America and Giant Man help the
Avengers repel the Martian invaders. Genis and Wasp are forced to battle the 50s Avengers
before they can convince them of a plot to kill the vice-president. However, they are too
late as Immortus makes his appearance and brings the entire time stream to an end with the
Forever Crystal. Meanwhile, in the late nineteenth century American West, Kang destroys
the Avengers' chronosphere and tries to kill them. Hawkeye see through a deception by
space phantoms posing as western heroes.
Avengers Forever #6 (May 1999) - written by
Kurt Busiek, art by Carlos Pacheco
- Genis and Wasp barely escape from the destruction of the timeline and
return to the Sphinx. In the alternate future Earth, the Avengers travel to Wakanda where
they encounter a the insectoids and their mother Mourning Prey. Jocasta gives birth to her
child and Captain America and Giant Man make their way to the Sphinx. In the late
nineteenth century American West, the Avengers avoid mucking up their past and sneak into
Kang's citadel to steal another chronosphere. They rejoin the rest of the team in the
Sphinx. Frustrated by their inability to uncover Immortus's plan, they decide to attack
Immortus' stronghold at the heart of Limbo!
Avengers Forever #7 (June 1999) - written
by Kurt Busiek, art by Carlos Pacheco
- The Avengers breach Limbo in search of answers. The space/time
fluctations make their progress difficult. They are seperated and forced to confront their
greatest fears or shame. They manage to regroup and pull out of Limbo. YellowJacket,
seeing his bleak future, decides to join Immortus against theAvengers. Hawkeye managed to
get his hands on the Synchro-Staff. Captain America seems to have regain his confidence.
Avengers Forever #8 (July 1999) - written
by Kurt Busiek, art by Carlos Pacheco
- The Synchro-Staff turns out to be a Space Phantom in disguise who
reveals Immortus' plan. Immortus, after shedding his identity as Rama-Tut and Kang, is
recruited by the Time-Keepers to become the custodian of time. Apparently, humanity, using
the Destiny Force, will eventually form a cosmic empire that will plunge the galaxy into a
devastating war. To prevent the humans from ascending to this level, Immortus' has
manipulated the Avengers time stream repeatedly because they will play a major role in the
formation of this cosmic empire. Once the Space Phantom has concluded his tale,
YellowJacket strikes downing the Avengers leaving them at Immortus' mercy.
Avengers Forever #9 (August 1999) - written
by Kurt Busiek, art by Carlos Pacheco
- An off-beat issue in which we listen to the musings of Kang the
Conqueror as he revisits his past. He remembers his early adventures as the Pharaoh; his
meeting with Dr. Doom; his first encounters with the Avengers; the lost of his lover,
Ravonna; an attempt to seize power by trying to take Mantis, the chosen Celestial Madonna,
as his bride; his conflicts with Immortus; his efforts to destroy the Cross-Time Kangs;
and his apparent destiny to become Immortus and to be trapped into doing their bidding.
The Supreme Intelligence and Rick Jones enlist Kang's help to free the Avengers from
Immortus and foil Immortus' mysterious plot.
Avengers Forever #10 (October 1999) -
written by Kurt Busiek, art by Carlos Pacheco
- The Avengers awaken to face the Rickard Jonz's army of Avengers. They
are taken captive and await their execution. Immortus brings them before the Time-Keepers
where they learn of the Time-Keepers' origins and the threat that humankind presents to
the universe. The Avengers are unable to persuade the Time-Keepers from destroying
humanity. YellowJacket rejoins them and they attack the Time-Keepers. Their battle is
joined by Rick, Kang, and the Supreme Intelligence.
Avengers Forever #11 (December 1999) -
written by Kurt Busiek, art by Carlos Pacheco
- The combined attack of the Avengers, Kang, Rick Jones, and the
Supreme Intelligence forces the Time-Keepers and Immortus to withdraw. However, the
Avengers and company catch up with them at the End of Time. The Time-Keepers kill Immortus
and pull a variety of fallen Avengers from different timelines and pit them against the
Avengers. Rick Jones meets his future counterpart who has bonded with Captain Marvel and
together they summon a horde of Avengers to even the stakes.
Avengers Forever #12 (February 2000) -
written by Kurt Busiek, art by Carlos Pacheco
- A magnificent battle takes place between the hordes of fallen
Avengers and the horde of heroic Avengers. Kang refuses to be changed into Immortus and
takes the battle to the Time-Keepers. Rick Jones, manifesting the Destiny power destroys
the Time-Keepers' Chrono Cannon while Kang destroys the Time-Keepers. Captain America gets
a hold of the Destiny Crystal and destroys it. Immortus, who represents the scholar side
of Kang, rises from the residual energy left behind from the Time-Keepers attempt to
accelerate Kang. Kang himself fades into the time stream and sets about doing what he does
best, conquering. Unfortunately, Rick's stunt leaves his life force burnt out and Genis
merges with him to save his life. The Avengers are then all returned to their proper time
streams.
