History Behind Issue: Continued from Silver Surfer/Warlock #3

Plot: Warlock and Mephisto battle in a spiritual sphere. With the help of Drax and Moondragon, the Watch along with the Silver Surfer are free from Mephisto entrapment. Meanwhile, Mephisto tries to use deception to beat Adam Warlock, but the soul gem proves to be superior as he causes Mephisto to lose the gem containing Shalla Bal's soul. The gem falls outside the sphere and the Silver Surfer flies over to catch it but then looses it as Hades itself is ripped apart by the battle between Warlock and Mephisto. The gem then changes hands from Drax first to Pip. As a rock structure falls, Pip teleports the Watch out of there. The rock structure falls on top of the Surfer. Moments after he has dug himself out, he sees Mephisto sitting on his throne. Upon questioning, he learns that Warlock won the fight and that he and the Watch have gone back to the planet they were on. While speaking to Norrin, Mephisto turns his dark passion for Shalla Bal against him and puts a spell on him of anger and violence. He then sends him to the Watch where he begins firing, taking out individual Watch members. He begins fighting with Warlock next but is instead restrained by him. Shalla Bal then appears from behind and snaps the Surfer out of his spell. They both walk off to spend time together but soon realize that she must return to her world. Pip transports her back. The Silver Surfer then says Warlock's side of the bargain is completed and that as agreed upon, he will grant him a mutual favor upon request. He then leaves contemplating what has been gained after all this ordeal: Mephisto hates him now more than ever, he owes a debt to Warlock and Shalla Bal is as unattainable as ever. But, he rationalizes, at least she lives.

The End.

Comments: The story is good, the art is alright. Important realization: The soul gem is more powerful than Mephisto in his own domain! A funny frame when Mephisto loses and is sitting on his throne as the Silver Surfer approaches him.
