History Behind Issue: Continued from Silver Surfer #74, the Heralds Ordeal concludes with the death of Nova.

Plot: The five former heralds of Galactus (Silver Surfer, Nova, Firelord, Air-Walker, and Terrax come to a planet at which Galactus has fed on. There, they come to face Morg, but they quickly learn Morg is much more powerful than when the Silver Surfer first made battle with him. Terrax convinces the Surfer that they cannot defeat Morg unless Galactus takes the Power Cosmic away from him. Silver Surfer goes to Galactus, as the others fight for more time, and for their lives. While Silver Surfer tries to reason with Galactus, Air-Walker is destroyed and Firelord is severely wounded. All at the hands of Morg. Meanwhile, the Silver Surfer finally convinces Galactus to spare his own life, and that Morg is unworthy of the Power Cosmic.

Meanwhile, Morg battles Terrax, who Morg believes is his most worthy challenger yet (probably because of the similarities between the two). Morg destroys Terrax’s axe and just before he tried to kill him is blasted by Nova. Then, the Silver Surfer arrives with Galactus. Silver Surfer congratulates Nova, but in the middle of their conversation, Nova is stabbed by Morg and his axe. She dies. Silver Surfer is angry, but before he attacks Morg, Galactus intervenes. Galactus explains that Morg is not worthy of the Power Cosmic. He takes it away, leaving Morg with only the power from the Well of Life. Galactus still, however, keeps Morg as his herald and tells Morg that he may have the Power Cosmic returned to him in the future. Galactus leaves, asking Morg to settle his conflicts quickly. Terrax suggests to the Silver Surfer that they should kill Morg, but the Silver Surfer refuses. Instead, all the heralds teach Morg a lesson, but Terrax wants more and slays Morg. With Morg dead, Galactus will need a new herald and Firelord and Air-Walker offer their service, while Terrax leaves to freedom in the spaceways. The Silver Surfer is left alone once more, as he sends Nova’s body into space where she can rest in peace.

Comments: A big ending to the Heralds Ordeal. Although, I miss Nova’s presence in the Marvel Universe, she certainly had one of the more memorable deaths. It is not, however, the last we see of Morg. This comic is full of good writing and excellent art by Ron Lim. It’s also full of interesting dialogue between the Silver Surfer and Galactus, as well as some nice action sequences between Morgs and the former heralds of Galactus.
