The Eternal Orb shows/tells Warlock about the history of Count Abyss. Originally a scientist, Milos Abyss researched a legend for years until finally he stumped on further leads. Milos killed his crew and advanced himself to a long lost ghost satellite where he found that the legends of Zalkor were true. Zalkor was a near omnipotent being who granted power to anyone who was willing to give up their soul and feed him skrimblatt, an addictive plant-like food for the immobile creature. The deal struck, Abyss now used his powers to conquer untold worlds in that dimension. Finally being on top, he grew tired of food, wines and woman and began to covet his soul once again. His research into obscure manuals and ancient manuscripts taught him of the infinity gems. Now his new goal would be to come into possession of the gem such that he may retain his god powers and have a soul. Once Warlock is filled in, he decides to take the Watch to the dimension attempting to use surprise on his side to rescue Maya. Having seen the actuality, Pip can now use Warlock's knowledge to teleport there. Though they think no one knows they are there, Pip looks back and soon realizes that is not the case.
